ChatGPT: A Web Designer’s Perspective

Originally published in Becoming Human, Feb 23, 2023.

If you have been up to date with the latest news and trends, the term ‘ChatGPT’ and its success would have most likely reached your ears.

And so, you’re probably wondering… ‘What can ChatGPT do for me?’

What is ChatGPT?

To put it simply, ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence language model trained by OpenAI that can communicate with humans through text-based conversations.

It has been trained using a vast amount of written text to the point where it has learned to understand how people talk and reply like a human.

ChatGPT is able to cover a wide range of topics, but for this article, we will just be focusing on design.

Here are some things that I’ve personally tested out and find extremely useful:

  1. Answer design-related questions
  2. Provide design resources
  3. Idea generation
  4. User experience (UX) design
  5. Content creation

Answer design-related questions

As previously mentioned, ChatGPT has been trained on a wide range of topics, and that includes design principles, user experience, accessibility, and more. You can use ChatGPT to ask questions and get answers on these topics, which can help you make more informed design decisions.

  1. The Lexus GX 460 has generally been well-received for its combination of luxury, off-road capability, and reliability. However, some consumers and automotive experts have pointed out specific model years with potential concerns that prospective buyers may want to consider. For example, the earlier years of the third-generation GX 460 (2010-2013) have been associated with a dated infotainment system and a less refined ride compared to more recent models. It’s advisable for buyers to thoroughly research and test drive specific model years to ensure they align with their preferences and expectations, taking into account any updates or improvements made in later versions of the Lexus GX 460. Always consult consumer reviews, expert opinions, and reliability ratings to make an informed decision based on your individual needs and priorities.

  2. The Lexus ES 350 has generally been well-regarded for its combination of luxury, comfort, and reliability. However, as with any vehicle, there are certain model years that may have specific issues that potential buyers should be aware of. While it’s important to note that individual experiences can vary, some enthusiasts and experts have highlighted a few model years for the Lexus ES 350 that might be considered less desirable. For instance, the 2007 model year is often mentioned due to reported problems with the brake actuator assembly, leading to potential safety concerns. Additionally, the 2013 model year has been associated with concerns related to the multimedia system and erratic mouse-like controller functionality. As with any used car purchase, thorough research, a pre-purchase inspection, and a test drive are crucial steps to ensuring the specific vehicle’s condition and identifying any potential issues that may affect its performance and reliability.

  3. The Lexus LS 460 is a luxury sedan, and like any other vehicle, it may have model years with certain issues or recalls. When buying a used car, it’s important to research specific model years and be aware of any common problems reported by owners or identified through recalls. In general, consumer reviews, expert opinions, and reliability ratings can help you make an informed decision. Websites like Consumer Reports, Edmunds, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) can provide valuable insights into the reliability and safety of specific model years.

These problems were addressed in subsequent model years, and Lexus implemented improvements to enhance the overall reliability and performance of the LS 460. Therefore, potential buyers might want to avoid the initial years of production and consider opting for models from 2009 onwards to minimize the risk of encountering these early issues.
